In this tutorial, we will show you how to insert a hyperlink and bookmark into your publication. You can utilize a Hyperlink in your publication to have quick access to related information in another file, web page, email addresses or a different location within your publication.
First, we will create a hyperlink to a location on the web. You can start by highlighting the text or picture that you want to display as a hyperlink. Now select the Hyperlink button in the Links section of the Insert tab.
The Insert Hyperlink dialog box will open. In the Link to section, ensure the Existing File or Web Page button is selected. Type in the web address the text/picture will link to in the Address text box. When you are finished, select OK.
Our text, “reviews”, now shows as a hyperlink. When it is selected, you will be taken to the website where the reviews are located.
To test the hyperlink, hold down CTRL while you click on the linked text/picture.
You can also create a hyperlink to a file on your computer, or to a new file you want to create on your computer. Again, you will select the text or picture that you would like to show as a hyperlink. Select the Hyperlink, button in the Links section of the Insert tab. Make sure the Existing File or Web Page option is selected from the Link to section. Then select one of the three options in the Look in section to browse for the desired file. Select OK after selecting your file and your text or picture will be hyperlinked to your file.
Let’s take a look at how to create a hyperlink to another page in your publication. Select the text or picture you would like to show as a hyperlink. Click on the Hyperlink button in the Links section of the Insert tab. When the Insert Hyperlink dialog box appears, select the Place in This Document option from the Link to section. The pages of your document will appear in the middle of the dialog box. Select the desired page and click OK.
You can also create a new, blank file and hyperlink text or a picture to it. Select the text or picture you would like to link to the new document. Click the Hyperlink button in the Links section of the Insert tab. In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, select Create New Document from the Link to section. Type a name for the new file in the area shown. You can save your document under the Full path shown or select Change to designate a different location. In the When to edit section, you have the option to Edit the new document now or later. Make your selection and click OK.
Now, let’s link a text or picture to an email address. Select the text or picture to link and click the Hyperlink button in the Links section of the Insert tab. When the Insert Hyperlink dialog box appears, select the E-mail Address option in the Link to section. Type the email address you want in the E-mail address text box or you may find your desired email address in the Recently used e-mail addresses list.
Remember, to test your hyperlinks from a web publication before you publish it to the web, you need to hold down CTRL while you click the linked text or picture.
Now we will show you how to insert a bookmark into Publisher. A bookmark is a fancy way of navigating around your own site. If you want to link from one part of the site to another one, you would do that with a bookmark.
While in your publication, select the Bookmark button from the Links section of the Insert tab.
When the Bookmark dialog box opens, give your bookmark a name in the text box provided. Select Add when you are finished.
Once the bookmark is inserted into your publication, you will notice a book mark or icon on your page (as shown in the image to the right). This lets you know there is a bookmark; however, the icon does not appear when you preview or print your publication.
Publisher will allow you to add hyperlinks to the location of the bookmark in the publication. Select the text or picture you would like to link and then select the Hyperlink button from the Links section of the Insert tab.
The Insert Hyperlink button will appear and select Place in This Document from the Link to section. In the middle of the page you will find the bookmarks you created. Select the desired bookmark and click OK.
Now when you select the Bookmark button from the Links section, you will find the bookmarks you have created.
You can quickly go to the area in your publication of the bookmark by selecting it and clicking Go To.
To delete the bookmark, select it and click on Delete.
