If you are the original author of a document, it is up to you to accept the changes to make them permanent, or if you disagree, reject them.

Word 2010 Proofing File Review: Track Changes

Accept

First, highlight the change you would like to accept. Then select, Accept from the Changes section of the Review tab.

Word 2010 Accept Changes

Selecting the top portion of the Accept button will accept the current change and move to the next proposed change.

By selecting the bottom portion of the Accept button, a drop down menu will open and give you the option to accept the change and move to the next proposed change or to accept all changes in the document.

Word 2010 Changes: Accept or Decline Changes

We will choose to accept our first change, which is to delete the word "and". After selecting Accept, the change takes effect by deleting the word "and".

Word 2010 Changes: Continue Searching

When you are finished with all the changes in your document, a dialog box will appear asking if you want to continue searching from the beginning of the document.

Reject

You also have the option to reject the change. Highlight the change you would like to reject, then select Reject from the Changes section of the Review tab.

Word 2010 Changes: Reject

Selecting the top portion of the Reject button will reject the current change and move to the next proposed change. By selecting the bottom portion of the Reject button, a drop down menu will open and give you the option to reject the change and move to the next proposed change or to reject all changes in the document. You do not have the ability to reject all of the comments in the document. You have to select each comment individually and select reject. This will cause the comment to disappear.

Word 2010 Reject Changes

In our example, we will reject the change that we previously accepted above. Notice the strike through is no longer over the word "and". It removes the change that the other user made.

To quickly scroll through the changes in your document, select the Previous and Next buttons in the Changes section of the Review tab.
